Why I Changed My Name – And Why “SnowyDevil”
Many of you have probably noticed that I changed my name. In this post, I want to explain why I did it, what was wrong with my old name, and why I chose this new one.
Why I Changed My Name
The questions “Why did you change your name?” and “What was wrong with your old name?” are basically the same, so I’ll answer them together.
The reason I changed my name is that something just felt off. My old name – “Sheerraa” or “Sherra” – was already problematic. That’s exactly why there were two versions.
The Origin
The origin of a name, or more precisely the time it comes from, is important. I don’t want to go into all the details, but there was a time in my life when I was searching for something, trying to find myself, still underaged, and surrounded by the wrong people. I’ve always struggled to give myself a fitting username or name. Between 2012 and 2026, I had many online personas.
The name “Sherra” came from a conversation with an online friend. I had just changed my old gamertag, which was barely readable by anyone (including myself), into something that kept the spirit of the old tag. The result was “Sherra.” At the time, the name wasn’t really meant to suit me or sound good—it was more about satisfying my identity search at that moment.
When I started YouTube and other online projects, I never expected it to become such a big part of my life. So my old username was never carefully thought out or special; it was just my gamertag from a bad time, something I always had to think about whenever I uploaded a video.
You can read more about how I started to upload in my post “How Everything Began”.
The Uniqueness
This name is absolutely not unique.
There are even bigger YouTubers with the same name. It’s a normal name that people give to their kids. This caused a problem: how could people find me when there were so many bigger online personas with the same name?
So I changed it to “Sheerraa.” But even this was never fully satisfying—it’s hard to remember and doesn’t look great. I was never really happy with it.
I Couldn’t Stand It
And if you can’t stand your own name anymore, that’s a pretty bad sign.
When it’s not unique, doesn’t feel like it fits you, comes from a bad time in your life, and gives you a weird feeling every time you use it—then it’s time for a change. I had always wanted to, but I never found a suitable replacement… until now.
Why “SnowyDevil”?
This time, I wanted to do everything better. I wanted a name I can truly stand for, one that suits me, and that is unique.
The Inspiration: Snow Devil
The name comes from the weather phenomenon called a snow devil. For those who don’t know, a snow devil is a small but powerful whirlwind that forms in snowy conditions. It starts quietly, almost unnoticed, swirling gently across the landscape—but when it moves, it’s strong, persistent, and impossible to ignore.
That’s exactly how I see myself. I’m usually a quieter, more reserved person. I observe, plan, and keep things under control. But when I set my mind to something, I go all in—I push forward, I don’t back down, and I make sure my work gets done. Just like a snow devil, I might start subtle, but I make my presence felt when it really counts.
Why “SnowyDevil” and Not Just “SnowDevil”?
I wanted something unique. “SnowDevil” alone is already known as a term, but “SnowyDevil”? That’s almost entirely unheard of. There are no major brands or creators using it, and it gives me something I can truly call my own.
It felt like the natural continuation of my journey—after realizing my old name didn’t fully represent me, I wanted something meaningful, memorable, and uniquely mine. “SnowyDevil” is not just a name; it’s a reflection of my personality, my approach, and the energy I bring when I really commit to something.
It’s gonna be fun to change all my Links now! 😀
